The crossovers are taking over everything!
In reality, I didn’t know the Carolla 6 speed was getting moved later in the press car rotation and this was the replacement. First thoughts are it drives and is way bigger than it looks. So far I much prefer this over the Atlas and Tiguan. It feels more substantial and less modular/clunky. Steering is less sharp but this is a big car.

My brother’s ‘04 Highlander barely feels bigger than a ‘18 Rav4. He has the optional 3rd row, which is hilarious.

I drove a previous gen V6 Highlander recently. Oh. My. God. The torque steer. It was kind of hilarious to drive because it felt so out of control. It was approaching 100k miles and desperately needed a brake job (which meant you needed to double your normal stopping distance, and then add a quarter mile) , the steering was really vague, and my god the thing was heavy, especially around corners . But that engine could overwhelm the front tires on command, and had some really decent pull through the whole rev range, which kind of redeemed the whole thing.

My wife’s RX350 has alllll of the torque steer. If you look at my first article on RFD, I talk about how the RX400h is the best over the RX350 for that reason. This is an AWD and it solidifies it.

This is a vehicle I watch with an apprehensive eye when I see it approaching while I am in a crosswalk.
Also a good one for whipped suburbanites who like to scream at youth sports events.
